How many Naruto episodes are there in total?

The original Naruto ran for 220 episodes (2002–2007) and Naruto: Shippuden ran for 500 episodes (2007–2017), for 720 episodes combined. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations added a further 293 episodes (2017–2023).

Do I need to watch the original Naruto before Shippuden?

Yes. Shippuden picks up two and a half years after the original series ends and assumes you know the cast, the setting, and everything leading up to Sasuke's departure from the village.

Can I skip Naruto filler?

Yes, the filler episodes are anime-original content that doesn't come from Masashi Kishimoto's manga, so skipping them doesn't affect the main story. Use the filler guide above or switch to the "Canon only" filter at the top of this page.

What order should a first-timer watch Naruto in?

Release order: the original Naruto, then Naruto: Shippuden, then the movies at the points noted above, then Boruto. This is also the order used throughout this guide.

Is Naruto finished or still ongoing?

The original Naruto and Shippuden are both complete. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations finished its first run in March 2023 after 293 episodes. A sequel series adapting the Two Blue Vortex manga arc has been confirmed but has not yet started airing.
