How many Exorcist movies are there?
There are six films: The Exorcist (1973), Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), The Exorcist III (1990), Exorcist: The Beginning (2004), Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005) and The Exorcist: Believer (2023). There is also a two-season television series from 2016 to 2017.
Do I need to watch the Exorcist sequels before Believer?
The Exorcist: Believer directly follows the original 1973 film, and it does not require the middle films.
What order should a first-timer watch The Exorcist in?
Release order is the default. A chronological order would instead start with the two prequels, Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion.
Is there a new Exorcist movie coming?
Yes. A new Exorcist film from director Mike Flanagan, starring Scarlett Johansson, is scheduled for March 12, 2027. It replaces the cancelled Believer sequel, The Exorcist: Deceiver, and will be added to this list once it is released.
